Maria João Graça, Senior Associate, attended the 4th edition of the Conference "New Money – New Wave of Digital Money", organized by Journal ECO, in partnership with the Law Firm, Morais Leitão, which took place on November 6, in Lisbon.

Several experts from the financial and technology sectors and regulators met to discuss the future of payment methods in the digital ecosystem and the consumer experience.

The conference was divided into two discussion panels, which were attended by, among others: Francisca Guedes de Oliveira, director of the Bank of Portugal, Luís Ribeiro, director of Novo Banco and Shamil Indrakumar of Visa.

Topics such as the challenges in the implementation of new technologies, the importance of financial education for the safe adoption of digital payment methods among consumers, attacks associated with new payment methods and practices to prevent them, innovative technologies and essential measures to ensure the security of digital transactions and the protection of users data were addressed.

Regarding Fintechs, the importance of balancing a solid regulation and the creation of an attractive market for the same and the way in which Fintechs develop their projects and relationships with other market players was highlighted.

Finally, the latest trends in the area of payments and current consumer demands were mentioned, including instant payments, public payment infrastructures, intermediation platforms and digital currency.
