Highlights

Abreu & Marques attended a conference of the Law Firm Network, which took place in Tunes, Tunisia, between the 3 and 6 of October, 2012. The conference dealt with the foreign investment in Africa and in particular in Tunisia, in the following of the regime change observed there in 2011, which originated what came to be designated as the Arab Spring. As to the investment in Africa in general, particular focus was given to north Africa, but reference was also taken to sub Saharan Africa, namely Angola. On the latter, it was emphasized the possible consequences of the intervention of Vulture Funds. The conference also dealt with the new rules of arbitration within the International Chamber of Commerce. In addition to the Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, speakers involved members of the Tunisian Government, various Maghreb lawyers and representatives of the African Investment Bank and of the European Development Bank. In attendance, were also lawyers from Spain, Belgium, Germany, United States of America, United Kingdom, Malta, Russia and Ireland. Abreu & Marques was represented by its partner, Afonso Barroso
