2011-11-23
On November 9th last a meeting took place at the Portuguese Embassy in London with the Secretary of State of Tourism Dra. Cecilia Meireles, for a debate of issues regarding residential tourism in Portugal, in which was present the partner Jorge
de Abreu and the following participants:
Ambassador of Portugal, Mr Joao de Vallera
Andre Jordan, CEO of Planbelas (Corporate Member of PCC)
Diogo Gaspar Ferreira, CEO of Vale do Lobo SA and President of the Portuguese Resort Association (APR)
Charles Weston Baker, Director and Head of International Residential Sales at Savills
Clive Statham, Director of Anglo Portuguese Corporate and Commercial
Geoff Hadwick, Editor of Overseas Property Professional magazine
Simon Perks, Director, Perks Property Finance Solutions and Vice Chairman of PCC
Jorge Botelho Moniz, Head of Residential Tourism Dept, Banco Espirito Santo
Jose Pedro Amaral, Chief of Staff for Secretary of State for Tourism
Rita Abecassis, Team Member for Secretary of State for Tourism
Frederico Costa, Vice President, Turismo de Portugal
Filipe Silva, Director, Portuguese National Tourism Office, UK
The discussion of the topics was very constructive and it aimed at promotion and marketing.
The participants showed their concerns in relation to a proposal in the Budget Law for 2012, envisaging the application of a yearly property tax of 7,5% on properties owned by the so-called offshore companies.
In 2003 identical measures were taken and no additional tax collection took place due to redomiciliation, and the publicizing of such measure abroad made way to a stop in property sales to foreigners in leisure areas.
